I am so happy that you have decided to check out my studio policies. I look forward to working with you as your guitar instructor.
🎸 Guitar Lesson Rates & Policies
Note to Parents and/or Students
I want all my students to succeed. A quiet, distraction-free place to practice and a consistent daily practice time are key to steady progress.
Younger children will likely need some help at home and are required to have a parent present during lessons to assist and observe. My studio is an open-concept environment, and I encourage all parents to sit in on lessons whenever possible.
Monthly Lesson Commitment
When you register for monthly lessons, you are reserving a weekly time slot in the schedule — just like a hockey team reserves ice time. Your spot is held exclusively for you and is guaranteed as long as monthly payment is made on time.
Your lesson time is reserved exclusively for you each week, and when a lesson is cancelled on short notice, it’s often difficult to fill that spot. Your lesson fees guarantee your dedicated time and ongoing progress, not just individual attendance.
Monthly lesson fees are based on the number of weeks in the month (4 or 5), not on the number of lessons you attend or plan to attend. Even if you know ahead of time that you’ll miss certain weeks, your reserved time remains part of the monthly schedule and cannot be deducted from your lesson fees.
Make-up lessons are available when at least 24 hours’ notice is given, but they do not reduce or credit monthly lesson fees. Make-ups are offered as a courtesy and are subject to the teacher’s availability within the same month. Unused make-ups do not carry forward to the next month.
There are no refunds or prorating for missed lessons.

Payments
All monthly lesson fees are due on the first lesson of the month. Your weekly time slot is guaranteed only once payment has been received.
Payments can be made via e-transfer, cheque, or cash. E-transfers should be sent to billy@guitarinstructor.ca with the student’s name and month in the memo line. Cheques should also include the same details.
Cancellations & Make-Up Lessons
Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson to qualify for a make-up. Make-up lessons are offered as a courtesy and are subject to the teacher’s availability within the same month.
During busy teaching seasons, available make-up times may be limited or unavailable. Make-ups do not reduce or credit monthly lesson fees, and unused make-ups do not carry forward to future months.
No-shows or cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice are forfeited. Frequent cancellations may result in your reserved time being offered to another student.
Rare Exceptions
In rare and unexpected circumstances (such as extended illness or family emergencies), exceptions to this policy may be considered at the teacher’s discretion.
Holidays & Teacher Cancellations
Lessons run year-round. Statutory holidays and scheduled vacation weeks are skipped with advance notice and are not billed.
For Monday Students:
Monday holidays (such as Thanksgiving, Family Day, etc.) are excluded from billing. If a Monday holiday falls on your regular lesson day, your lesson fees will reflect one less week that month.
Teacher Vacation Weeks:
Occasionally, the instructor may take a week off for holidays or professional commitments. In these cases, lessons will be rescheduled, skipped, or prorated to ensure students only pay for the number of lessons provided. Advance notice will always be given for planned breaks.
Illness & Emergencies
Students who are ill should not attend in-person lessons. Instead, their lesson will be conducted via Zoom. In emergency health situations, all lessons will continue online at their regular times.
Student Materials & Practice Expectations
Students receive materials during lessons for home practice. Zoom students receive a Google Drive link for their personal lesson folder. Consistency and a quiet practice environment are key to progress. Parents are encouraged to sit in for young students.
Lesson materials remain available for up to 3 months after lessons have ended, after which Google Drive access will be removed. Students are encouraged to download any files they wish to keep before that time.
Discontinuing Lessons
If you plan to discontinue lessons, please provide at least two lessons’ notice so your time slot can be offered to another student. This notice is not required but is greatly appreciated as a courtesy to the instructor and other students waiting for a spot.
